Eleanor Blair

I search for beauty in the natural world and in everyday things. I work primarily in oil, from life and from my photographs. I love to see how light transforms objects and places, and to capture that transformation in paint.

My Evergreen Cemetery paintings are inspired by the feelings I have experienced, wandering under the ancient oaks amid the grave stones at the end of the day; grief, memory, a sense of our shared history, and wonder at the miracle of this short existence here on Earth, in the sun and in the shadows…

Biography

Eleanor Blair graduated from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City in 1969. She moved to Gainesville in 1971 and has been painting Central Florida scenes since that time. She is a well-known member of the art community in Gainesville; exhibiting her work in local art festivals, painting on stage with the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra, volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and working in her studio on South Main Street. April 2013 will mark her 42nd consecutive year in the Spring Arts Festival!
