The Scientists

The academic and research environment at the University of Florida fosters scientists. Among them, Gatorade inventor Robert Cade is certainly the best known, and the most frequently asked about person at the cemetery.

Mycologist William Murrill, Anthropologist William Maples, as well as Ecologists Archie and Marjorie Carr were all renowned in their fields.

Archie and Marjorie Carr were both biologists and ecologists. Archie Carr was renowned for his work with sea turtles and due to Marjorie Carr’s tireless work the Cross Florida Barge Canal was stopped in its tracks.

William Maples was a prominent forensic anthropologist best known for identifying the remains Czar Nicholas II and the Russian royal family.
